One Room Challenge - Spring 2020 l Week 3 - Window Treatments

ORC Week 3 Post.jpg

We are entering week three of transforming our small San Francisco dining room for the One Room Challenge. The next step is installing window treatments!

Those of you following since week one may remember how our dining room window looked - sad. The previous tenant had hung a curtain rod much too low and it drove me crazy! Take a look at our first blog to see how the room looked at the start here. I like to setup curtain rods at least 8 inches above the top of the window; it makes the window look larger, grander, and more stylish.

So, to start we went ahead and removed the ugly curtains and rod from the window. This was actually done before the painting we completed last week. I decided to go with a brass curtain rod with brass curtain rings to compliment both the window and bold midnight blue wall color. We chose white sheer curtain panels to not block the wonderful natural lighting this room gets and help make the small space feel light and airy.

What do you think? I’m obsessed with it already! I love how it turned out! It makes such a HUGE difference for our dining room window!

The day after we installed the new drapery the cheap shade decided to collapse and wouldn’t retract. We were unable to repair it. Our tenant agreement allows us to change shades and blinds. We are renters, so we didn’t want to invest in something too costly so we decided on a sheer double layered cordless shade. Our living living room bay windows already have these type of shades. We loved them with their ability to give a lot of control over privacy and light filtering since they aren’t blackout shades.

Once we received our shade order, I put Jeffry to work on installation. Such a good helper! It was little struggle to install and get centered right because these are original windows to this old building. Those that have lived in very old buildings know that with shifting and settling, things often don’t exactly “square up” any longer.

It turned out looking much better than before! I love how both the shade and drapery look together with the bold wall color. It is one million times better than before! In the last few days since we installed it I smile every time I look at our dining room window.

Up next week is chandelier installation! Can’t wait! Stay tuned to our progress!
