Planning a Remodel or Home Design - Realistic Timelines
Are you planning to host get-togethers in your home for the holidays? Or planning to have an event happening at your home in the near future? If you have a goal to update your home in time for a specific event or on a particular timeline, you’ll want to read this blog. I am to give you some insights into establishing a realistic timeline to complete your remodel or home decor refresh in time for your deadline.
The past year has been unusual year, to say the least, because of the Covid-19 pandemic. For safety concerns it’s forced the construction and manufacturing industries to change their processes and thus has slowed down making products. For example, pre-Covid-19, ordering a non-stock sofa usually took about 2 months to build and get shipped to your home. Now, you can expect 3-5 months for the exact same order.
So, if you are in need of new furniture you’re going to need to give yourself plenty of time to get it prior to your deadline. Please don’t wait until it’s too late. Sofas, sectionals, and chairs can be an investment and you want to get the right piece you’re going to love for many years. Don’t get into a situation due to a timeline that you have to go with stock furniture that may not be really what you want, or lower quality pieces, just to have seating for your event. Let’s take the holidays and Christmas for example. I would actually recommend making your order in May or June just to be entirely safe that you’re going to have your design 100% complete prior to the holidays.
Now, if your design plans involve some reno or remodel work you’re going to need even more time. At minimum, I suggest 6-8 months to be safe. Of course, there are some simple projects with big impact that can be done much quicker than that; new paint or even new flooring. If you’re doing any gut jobs, it could take even more time, and the more spaces you’re going to touch, the longer it will take. Believe me, every remodel is going to take longer than what you “think” it should.
I’ve seen exactly these kinds of issues happen with my clients and friends. Having an unrealistic timeline is only going to cause you a great deal of stress and potentially force you into decisions that you’ll have to live with for a long time and not be entirely happy about.
Many of us weren’t able to be with friends and family this past 2020 holiday season and are very much looking forward to socializing again at the end of 2021 and experiencing our holiday traditions. If you are considering some new furniture or updates to your home, I suggest you start some serious planning now so you can create wonderful new memories this year without unnecessary stress and anxiety.
