Ask Joshua - What to do with the space around a fireplace?
Hi Joshua,
I have 2 large blank walls on either side of the fireplace. I have art over the fireplace. The wall opposite the fireplace is the wall the sofa is against. Mirrors hang above the sofa. I don’t know what else to incorporate. A gallery wall over console tables on each side? Console table with shelves over them? This isn’t the rug we’re using in the living room either.
Thanks!

Hi Chelsie,
Thank you for the question about your fireplace wall situation. I took a moment to review the pictures you shared - I can see how it can be a challenge to figure out what to do with these walls on either side of the fireplace due to the size of the room. Here are some suggestions on making this work:
1. Place a console table or bookcase on one side of the fireplace and place the accent chair on the other side of the fireplace. I’d do a wall art gallery or large art pieces on the walls on both sides of the fire place.
2. You can change the furniture layout by placing the sofa on the left side of the fireplace and have two chairs on the right side so they are facing each other. You can add the console table behind the sofa with a large tree (around 6’ or 7’ tall). You could place the mirror on the mantle and have art pieces on the walls on both sides of the fireplace. The wall opposite of the fireplace can be used as an art gallery wall and will be reflected in the mirror.
If you need additional assistance in selecting just the right pieces and decorating your living room - I can definitely assist you with that. You can get in touch with us here to discuss your project details.
Warmly,
Joshua
