Airbnb Property - Expect The Unexpected

Airbnb Property - Expect The Unexpected

Recently, Jeffry and I had our first real vacation in almost three years and we vacationed along the Oregon and Washington coast to some areas of the Pacific Northwest that we’ve never experienced before. A couple months ago, we were researching hotels to stay in and not too keen with the options as we wanted something unique and for us to step outside our comfort level. We decided to look at Airbnb. We wanted this trip to be low budget, so looking for affordable properties and we were seeing some nice, but kind of generic looking, units until we came across this really different property; Jen’s Downtown Guest Suite - CLOUD 254, located in the heart of downtown Astoria, OR. As soon as we saw the pictures, location, and reviews, it was a super easy yes to pick that place. I want to share our experiences with staying at this unique Airbnb property.

We arrived in Astoria, Oregon to check in and the first thing we see is a simple and nondescript looking storefront in the heart of downtown Astoria that happens to be a place that we would stay for our vacation. Despite this picture, downtown Astoria is super cute and has some great architecture and charm, but you’d never guess at the little gem of a suite hiding behind that door.

It doesn’t look like much from the outside, right. Don’t judge by the cover. Let’s start with the living room area first.

So, understand that Astoria has a long history as a fishing and port town. The maritime industry is ingrained in the soul of the area, so the owner decided to take that theme and do it in a big, bold, quirky way. It sure isn’t what you would expect from the outside right? That is exactly why I love about this place - expect the unexpected! The interior design of this property is a quirky coastal style but with a decidedly more modern side. I love their jewel color scheme which helps balance the overall look of the interior. For the storefront window area - I love how they turned it into banquette seating for the reclaimed wood wrapped in metal table, which is smart way to use the space without making the main living area feeling crowded. The living area is very cozy and a fun place to hang out. Certainly the neon crab made me smile.

The bedroom was a cool space as well. I like how the neting is being used to create an accent wall for this space which helps create a focus for the bedroom without a headboard. What this photo isn’t showing - there is a kitchenette and TV on the other side of this bedroom. The bathroom is behind the curtains and featured a very generously sized shower. There’s some charming French doors separating the bedroom and living area.

After spending four nights at this property, we have to say that we had an amazing experience here. We were in love with the location as it made all the areas of Astoria walkable with it’s really great restaurants, shops, and museums easy to explore. Kudos to Jen (owner of this Airbnb property) for transorming this storefront into a really great little downtown getaway with a fun style that pays homage to the area and history.

If you’re thinking about going to Astoria, Oregon and want to experience something different and fun - I highly recommend staying at this place!
