Ask Joshua: The Insider's Guide to Choosing Ideal Beds & Bedding for Your Vacation Rental Log Home!
Hello Joshua,
Years ago, I inherited a 4-bedroom log cabin that was built by my grandpa in the forest, not too far from where I currently reside. For many years, my family and I shared the log cabin for getaways, but as our lives became increasingly busy, we haven't spent as much time there recently. Consequently, my wife and I made the decision to convert our log cabin into a vacation rental home, allowing others to enjoy it while enabling us to earn some extra income when we're not using it ourselves.
We're currently in the process of upgrading the cabin to make it more appealing to renters. One major decision we're facing is regarding the type of bed and bedding for the primary bedroom. We'd prefer to steer away from log-style beds, as they don't quite align with our tastes. However, we're uncertain about the type of bed that would complement the overall look of a log cabin while avoiding the 'cheesy' feel. Additionally, we're seeking advice on the most suitable bedding that would be both appropriate for a vacation rental home and aesthetically pleasing within a log cabin setting.
We would greatly appreciate your insights and suggestions on this matter.

Hey Greg,
Thanks for reaching out with such awesome questions about finding the perfect bed and bedding for your log home bedroom. Here's what I think:
When it comes to the bed, aiming for a rustic wooden frame with a touch of elegance might be the way to go. Consider a bed that has a wooden structure but adds a classy vibe with a leather cushion on the headboard. If you're worried about wear and tear from renters, going with an all-wood bed could be a more durable option, lasting longer and handling rougher treatment. I've curated a selection of beds that fit perfectly with log cabins in the digital shopping list I'm sending your way.
As for bedding, opting for a white bed sheet set coupled with a winter duvet cover can be a smart move. Bed bugs can be a concern, and having white bedding helps renters inspect for any issues before settling in. Plus, it makes it easier for you or your cleaning crew (if you've got them on board) to spot and swiftly tackle any potential bed bug situations. Bed bugs aren't big fans of white bedding as it's harder for them to hide compared to other colors. White bedding also makes it a breeze to see if they're clean and you can bleach them if needed without worrying about affecting other bedding with different colors. To add a dash of color and warmth, consider decorative pillows and a throw blanket to make the space feel cozy without that typical hotel room vibe. I've also got some recommendations for bedding, decorative pillows, and throw blankets in the digital shopping list.
Hope these suggestions help you narrow down your choices for your log home. And hey, if you need more guidance on sprucing up your log home, feel free to reach out to me for my virtual interior design services here.
