Joshua's Top Picks - Rustic Glam Dining Room
As the holiday season approaches- it’s a good time to start thinking about styling your dining room for the holidays. I came up with the latest in my Top Picks series; a rustic glam style dining room. The décor is not over the top seasonal or specialized, so just about everything here is going to also work year-round. It’s an elegant dining room that’s still comfortable enough for every-day meals.
I wanted to do a few things different in this design from some of my typical dining room designs. For the large dining table - I decided to go with “ghost” side chairs to make the dining room feel bigger and more open. It also gives a glam vibe while being unobtrusive and doesn’t clash with the rustic or natural elements of the room. Remember, dining chairs don’t have to be matchy-matchy. It is okay to have two different kind of chairs to have some fun.
Some dining rooms are large enough, especially in an open floor plan, that give some extra space. It can be challenging to figure out how to fill up the “dead” space and make it functional in some way. In this design, I added in two accent chairs with a side table next to the windows which would be a perfect place to have a private one on one conversation.
In this large space, in addition to the extra seating area, there was space to add in a sideboard and a cabinet. This part of the dining room, I came up with the display cabinet with art pieces and a plant to help fill up the wall between the doorways. You can use the display cabinet to display your collection or use it as storage for dishware or serveware.
A tip for what to do with extra dining chairs when you don’t have that leaf in the table for entertaining larger groups is to place them on either end of a sideboard. It keeps them in the same space, so their convenient, it helps frame the sideboard, they already match existing chairs in the space, and if you are entertaining a larger group for the holidays it’s always nice to have some extra seating readily available.
Second tip - when you decorate with lots of solid colors or finishes. I recommend adding some patterns to provide some additional visual interest and helps pull the entire room together. For example, I selected a boldly patterned rug, still in the same color palette of the space, to pull your eye to the centerpiece of the room; the dining table.
When you’re entertaining - let’s have fun decorating the dining table! You don’t get to do it that often, well, at least that’s true for most of us, and it’s a great way for some conversations starters when you sit down. Of course, make sure your dining table has room for the essentials first; placements, dishware, serveware first before thinking about filling it up with decoration. For my table here, I added several candles, plants, vases, and decorative objects.
I hope this helps you to get inspired with decorating your dining room for the holidays. If you love any pieces of this design - you can shop this look below!
