2020... What a crazy and adventurous year for us!

I’m sure we can all agree that 2020 has been crazy year. Despite dealing with the Covid-19 health crisis and and a great deal of political upheaval this year, I wanted to look back and reflect on what was positive.

Some of you have been following throughout the past year and probably already know a lot of what was happening to me but if you’ve forgotten, and for those that are new, I’ll touch upon some highlight moments in the past year.

Last March, I finally decided to participle in the One Room Challenge as a guest to give my dining room a makeover in my old San Francisco apartment. That was quite a fun 8 week process that was one of my proudest moments of 2020 when we finished! You can take a look at my blog posts about it here.

Last spring, I was approached by House Beautiful magazine for an interview in their June/July 2020 print issue. This was a huge deal for me and my career and was a really great feature on how Deaf individuals can be successful in their careers. I also was featured in a number of online magazines and by popular bloggers like Apartment Therapy, Business of Home, MyDomaine, etc. That led me to create a new Press webpage on my website to put all the articles that I’ve been featured in one place. You can take a look here.

Last October, I introduced a new freebie service called “Ask Joshua”. It allows you to ask any interior design related question and your question may be featured on our weekly blog with my answer to your question. Since launching, I’ve truly enjoyed answering people’s questions and helping on some simple design issues. Perhaps you might have learned something along the way as well if you read other’s design dilemmas! You can see “Ask Joshua” posts on our blog page. If you have any interior design related question - you can ask me here.

Moving back to Seattle, Washington

In the past year, the Covid-19 pandemic hit and our personal lives changed a lot. As I mentioned in a blog post, my other half, Jeffry, was tested positive (I tested negative twice). We had to endure an at home quarantine separation for two weeks in our small SF apartment. We came to a point that we re-examined our life priorities and decided to return to our home, Seattle, Washington and settle there for good. We’ve been back since October and it was one of best decisions we’ve ever made. No regrets.

I’ve completed a little over 110 e-design projects in the past year alone, which has increased the total e-design projects in the 6 years of my interior design career to well over 400. It’s been an amazing journey and a lot of fun working on these amazing projects and having the opportunity to connect with some truly fantastic people as we’ve worked together to make their spaces a real home for them.

While we may not be out of the woods yet and 2020 may bleed over into 2021, I’m hopeful for the future and the exciting opportunities to come.

Cheers to 2021!
