It is hard to believe we are on week 8 for the One Room Challenge already! I know many of you are eager to see how our petite San Francisco dining room has turned out after this 8 week process. You can see below a before shot of the space, a 3D rendering of the design plan, and the after photo!

I’m blown away by how amazing it turned out; it’s just as I envisioned it and a huge improvement to what we started with! Now, we finally have a space we can truly enjoy since Jeffry and I enjoy having meals together for an opportunity to converse and catch up on the day. It is very important for us to have a proper dining space. Prior to living in Vancouver, we never had a proper space we could place a dining room table. Dinner was TV trays sitting on the sofa. I really hated having our meal time that way as it’s not conducive having a proper conversation and just not very comfortable. I’m glad that we have a proper dining space now.

I love how colorful and bold our dining room is without it being too loud. For example, we painted two walls in Midnight Navy but kept the draperies, table, chairs, and shade in a much lighter color while we still have pops of color in the selection of art and plants to help balance the overall dining room look. It gives a mid-century modern glam look that I was aiming for.

ORC Week 8 - Surprise Room.jpg

In our first One Room Challenge blog, I mentioned that we wanted our dining room to be known as the surprise room. The rest of the apartment is all neutrals so the dining room really is unexpected as you peer into it from the living room. I love it that I can sit down in our living room and able to see our beautiful dining room right though the doorway just like this picture above!

ORC Week 8 - Dinner Party.jpg

When hosting a casual dinner party, this is how I would style the table. We had purchased the black hammered metal chargers a while ago and works great with simple caterer’s white plates, navy and white striped cloth napkins and wood napkin rings.

It was a lot of fun working on our dining room project for the One Room Challenge. I want to say thank you to Linda Weinstein, the founder of the One Room Challenge, for this amazing opportunity to allows interior designers like myself participation in this event. I’m glad that I finally get to be part of it after years of following this event and watching so many talented interior designers revealed their beautiful spaces. Will I do it again? ABSOLUTELY!!! We will do it when we are ready to start work on our next room or maybe our next home - who knows?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on our reveal by leaving comments here.

I encourage you to check out all the fellow participants by going to the One Room Challenge Blog to see their reveals!
