Ask Joshua - What’s up with Christmas Tree Collars?

Hi Joshua,

This holiday season, I’ve noticed a bunch of stores selling Christmas tree collars. I’ve used tree skirts for years and I don’t understand the point of these collars; they just seem bulky. If you know, can you please explain?

Thank you,

Samantha - Vancouver, Washington

Hi Samantha,

Thanks for writing in with great question on the purpose of Christmas tree collars. They exist as a decorative alternative for people struggling to keep their tree skirts clean and safe from getting damaged by pets, kids, or accidentally sucked up by the vacuum. Having a Christmas tree collar is a great solution to stop some little dogs from urinating on live trees(they are confused as to why they can’t do that with an indoor live tree but it is ok do that with outside trees), cat vomit on skirt which can be difficult to clean it(I have dealt with that a few times in the past), and some toddlers crawling under the tree and access to the tree stand that can accidently knock the tree down. Some people get these just for the look since they also hide the unsightly stand. Years ago, we had limited options for collars and now there’s quite a variety of styles in different materials and finishes that work with many different design styles including Scandinavian, bohemian, industrial, and many more.

For anyone wondering where can you find some stylish Christmas tree collar options - I created a clickable digital shopping list below.
